A Chattanooga man has been charged with at least one of a string of smash-and-grab burglaries at a number of North Georgia convenience stores, according to Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson.

Steve Edward Kidd, 47, was charged in connection with the Jan. 16 burglary of the Rossville Kangaroo Convenience Store at 728 Park City Road.

More than $2,800 in cigarettes were stolen after a burglar threw a large rock into the glass front door of the store and escaped with a large trash can full of cigarettes, Wilson said.

Kidd had been arrested by Chattanooga Police Department last week and is being held in the Hamilton County Jail.

He is a suspect in other Walker County convenience store burglaries, but he has not been charged at this time, Wilson said.
