Murder trial begins in 2010 Chattanooga shooting

Jury selection is complete in the first day of a murder trial of a Chattanooga man charged in the shooting death of another man on July 4, 2010.

Jamaul Herman, 29, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Jerome Timmons.

Police arrested Herman hours after the Glass Street shooting. Witnesses told police that Herman and Timmons got into a fight in the parking lot of the Palace nightclub, Herman drew a handgun from his waistband. Timmons ran across the street and Herman chased him and shot him in the head, according to court documents and Times Free Press archives.

Police stopped Herman on Tarpon Trail near state Highway 58 at 2:45 a.m. July 4, 2010.

He had a broken jaw from the parking lot fight and had to be treated at Memorial Hospital.

Timmons was transported to Erlanger Hospital in critical condition and later died from the head wound.
