The United Way of Chattanooga is closed this week after sprinklers that were set off flooded three floors.

Fire officials arrived at 231 Delaware Ave. on Saturday after the fire alarm sensors on the third floor reached the maximum temperature of 155 degrees and set off the fire alarm and sprinklers, according to a news release.

It took almost an hour to stop the sprinklers because a lot of the electrical systems became wet, the news release said.

The center room on all three floors and most of the items were flooded, and there was water damage in some of the hallways, the news release said.

Cleanup continued all weekend, and the building temperature is to be raised to above 80 degrees today to dry out the remaining Sheetrock, the news release said. The United Way will be closed through the rest of the week to allow the Sheetrock to dry.
