Corbin Creighton took advantage of a Moccasin Bend special fee Tuesday: If it's your birthday, you play for free.
Creighton celebrated his 22nd birthday with a late-morning cruise around the Bend with one of his best friends.
An uncle introduced him to the game, but friends made the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga student stick to it.
"We all got into it at the same time, and with my some of my high school graduate money, I bought a good set of clubs," Creighton said. "It's probably one of the best investments I've made because they've got so much use."
Corbin plays almost every weekend and tries to take advantage of cheaper greens fees, including twilight rates and the birthday bargain.
"I like a little discount action," Creighton said. "But I haven't played in three weeks because I've been busy."
The challenge of the game is what keeps him coming back to area public courses, he said.
"I love the feeling you get when you hit the perfect shot, on the right spot and it feels good, or when you crush a drive," Creighton said. "I also love hitting a terrible shot, getting so mad, then making up for it."
He stands out from a crowd with a horseshoe mustache that makes him look older than 22. Yet, he said, it does not intimidate customers at Tony's, where he works as a waiter.
"My beard grows in fast, and I always think about what can I do to make myself look ridiculous," Creighton said. "I get so many compliments, and when I first started working there, others thought management would make me shave it.
"But I keep it clean."
