Hamilton County sheriff’s deputy arrested on count of prescription fraud

A Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office deputy was arrested on a count of prescription fraud Wednesday, according to East Ridge police.

Lori A. Pickett, 49, who is currently working in records at the sheriff’s office, is accused of trying to pass a fake prescription in the Walgreen’s at 5301 Ringgold Road.

She was arrested in February 2011 after she assaulted her husband, Hamilton County Courts Officer Jim Pickett, several times outside Juvenile Court.

Pickett was placed on leave by the sheriff’s office Wednesday evening, said Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Hammond. Her bond in the prescription charge was set at $1,000.

Deputies are normally placed on paid leave until their first court appearance, but because Pickett’s court date is not set till Aug. 21, Hammond said the sheriff’s office would have to look at her case to determine her pay status.

As a result of her arrest this week, the sheriff’s office will also conduct its own internal investigation.

The 2011 incident outside Juvenile Court occurred after Pickett heard that her husband allegedly was having an affair. Her case will be dismissed upon good behavior, according to court records.
