Prison prevention names director

The board for Prison Prevention Ministries has selected David E. Johnson as executive director.

He succeeds Wilma Smith, who retired the end of June after 12 years.

Johnson will oversee the operation, outreach and development of PPM. He has been with the city of Chattanooga for 36 years, managing the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium and Tivoli Theatre. He served as deputy administrator of Education, Arts & Culture and president of TAPA Inc.

Hathaway tapped for Round Table

Gary L. Hathaway, an agent for New York Life Insurance Co. in Chattanooga, has earned membership in the Million Dollar Round Table for 2012.

Achieving membership in MDRT is a career milestone attained only by those who have demonstrated superior professional knowledge, experience and client service.

MDRT is an international, independent association of the world's best life insurance and financial services professionals.

Hathaway has been a New York Life agent since 1987.

Vector Marketing opens city office

Vector Marketing has opened a new sales office in Chattanooga run by District Manager Evan Howard.

Located at 5959 Shallowford Road, Suite 411, the office will be used for recruitment and training of new sales representatives as well as for team meetings where additional training and mentorship is provided.

Sales representatives market Vector's product, CUTCO Cutlery, through in-home presentations and use the sales office as a home base.

Howard began working with Vector in 2010 and graduated from the University of Alabama in December 2011.

Two officers named for HFMA

A Cleveland, Tenn., woman was installed as an officer at the Tennessee Healthcare Financial Management Association's annual spring institute.

Martha Calfee, audit and consulting manager of Mathe-ney, Stees and Associates in Cleveland, Tenn., was installed as vice president, Eastern Division, of HFMA for 2012-13.

Also, Linda Knight was installed as secretary of the HFMA for 2011-12.

HFMA is the leading membership organization for health care financial management executives and leaders.

Stalvey picked for fellowship

Derrall Stalvey, news director for WRCB-TV, is one of 12 producers, reporters and multi-media journalists to become a journalism fellow in Germany, according to the Radio Television Digital News Foundation.

The fall 2012 German/American Journalist Exchange Program will run Sept. 3-16.

Sponsored by the RIAS Berlin Kommission, the program will feature briefings with top-level German political, business and media figures in Berlin and Dresden, along with international media figures in Prague, Czech Republic, before heading over to Brussels, Belgium, for meetings at the European Union and NATO.

Day of Giving raises money

The Ronald McDonald Charities Day of Giving, in which the Chattanooga Times Free Press was a partner, helped raise $15,241 at McDonald's locations.

The top stores were the Lee Highway location; Third Street; Hixson Pike; Red Bank; Summerville, Ga.; and Murphy, N.C.

With the addition of contributions from partner Regions Bank, the total raised was $17,241, according to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Chattanooga.

Adventist's Turner gets LEED status

Fred Turner, corporate architect for Southern Adventist University, has passed the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional in Building Design and Construction exam.

The course provides the knowledge and skill to understand green design, construction and operations.

Philyaw finishes judicial course

Graysville, Tenn., City Court Judge Rob Philyaw has completed a Best Practices in Handling Cases with Self-Represented Litigants course in Reno, Nev., at the National Judicial College.

As a result of attending this course, participants are able to recognize when an indigent self-represented party may be entitled to court-appointed counsel, move a self-represented party civil docket expeditiously, use settlement techniques in cases with self-represented litigants, recognize the limits on assisting self-represented parties, and apply innovative methods and strategies to ensure that these litigants have proper access to the justice system.
