A 20-year-old woman who left her 3-year-old child alone in a motel while she went to a bar has been charged with child abuse and neglect, according to a news release from the East Ridge Police Department.
Police were called to the Superior Creek Lodge on Mack Smith Road shortly after 1 a.m. and were told a couple had found a child alone in one of the rooms, according to East Ridge Police Department spokesman Erik Hopkins.
When they went into the room, police saw dirty clothes, old food, garbage, dirty diapers and fecal matter all over the floor, with clouds of flies buzzing about, Hopkins said.
Officers had been there about an hour and were waiting for someone from Child Protective Services when the child’s mother was located, Hopkins said.
She told officers she had left the child asleep around 11 p.m. while she went to a night club on Rossville Boulevard.
The mother, Angela Deville, 20, was taken to the Hamilton County Jail and is scheduled to appear in East Ridge Municipal Court at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
The child was taken into state’s custody by Child Protective Services.
The investigation is ongoing and further charges may be filed, Hopkins said.
