An Altamont, Tenn., man who was shot after trying to slash two Grundy County deputies last month has been indicted and arrested, authorities say.

Richard Fults, 33, of Stagecoach Road, faces two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count of resisting arrest, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Kristin Helm said Thursday in a news release.

In June, Grundy County Sgt. Jason Coffelt and Capt. Chris Boyd went to Fults' home on Stagecoach Road to arrest him for violating probation, according to Chattanooga Times Free Press archives. When the officers found him hiding in a closet, he came at them with a knife and said "they wouldn't take him to jail alive," Sheriff Brent Myers told the paper in June.

He said the deputies backed away and told Fults to drop the knife, but he kept coming at them. Coffelt finally fired, striking Fults in both shoulders and the chest, the sheriff said.

Helm said the TBI investigated the case and presented it to the grand jury.

In an unrelated case, Helm said the TBI also arrested Wayne Charles Green, 26, of Tram Road in Tracy City, who was indicted on one count of theft over $60,000.

Green was a bookkeeper at Basham Industries when the money went missing, Helm said.
