Hundreds rally for new VA hospital in Tennessee

KINGSTON, Tenn. — Hundreds of veterans attended a rally with Tennessee congressional members to push for opening a new veterans hospital in Harriman.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reported that an estimated 600 people on Friday came to hear three congressmen talk about their support of a proposal to convert the Roane Medical Center into a new veterans hospital.

U.S. Rep. Jeff Miller, a Florida Republican and chairman of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs, joined Tennessee congressmen Chuck Fleischmann and Scott DesJarlais on a tour of the facility, which will be turned over to the city once Covenant Health moves to a new facility.

Miller said the next step would be to try to get the secretary or undersecretary from the Department of Veterans Affairs to visit the facility.
