KIMBALL, Tenn. - When the installation of a new sewer pump station begins, city officials want to make sure the job is done right.

The Kimball Board of Mayor and Aldermen last week voted unanimously to hire Southeast Co. Inc. in Chattanooga to provide inspection services when the city's new pump station is installed.

Officials said the project is expected to take two weeks, and Kimball will pay $235 per day for an inspector.

"I think it's something we should do," Kimball Mayor David Jackson said. "This way, [they are] working for us and will make sure the pump station is installed correctly."

The only other options would be to have Kimball Maintenance Supervisor Mike Nelson spend eight to nine hours per day at the site or not to have an inspector at all, officials said.

Alderman Mark Payne said not having an inspector would be "an unacceptable option."

Kimball has had to pay about $25,000 in the past when it "didn't have adequate project representation" during similar installations, he said.

"We better make sure this thing is done right,"

Alderman Jerry Don Case said the board had no choice but to hire an inspector for the work even though the city has "spent quite a bit of money lately on the sewer."

"And we will as long as we have it," Vice Mayor Rex Pesnell said.

Jackson said he is not sure when the installation will begin, but he feels confident it will be done correctly because Southeast Co. has done a lot of work for Kimball.
