Herron named UTC's interim AD

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Chancellor Roger Brown announced this afternoon that senior associate athletic director Laura Herron will serve as interim athletic director while UTC searches for a replacement for Rick Hart, who was introduced as the AD at Southern Methodist University today.

Herron is in her 19th year at UTC - she started as an athletic trainer - and will continue her duties overseeing compliance and as the senior woman administrator.

Speaking in UTC's Hall of Fame room in McKenzie Arena, Brown said the search will begin quickly and will most likely involve a search firm. He also said that he doesn't need someone to come in and make dramatic changes.

"There's nothing wrong here," Brown said after praising Hart for the job he did in his six years at UTC. "I'm not looking for a person to fix the department."

When talking about Herron and emphasizing the trust he has in her, Brown highlighted her vast experience in the department.

"Compared to Laura, I am a freshman at UTC," said Brown, who has been at UTC for six years and will retire by March.
