Only God gives power to men
Words of wisdom to all politicians running in this election cycle: Even the most powerful person in the world only maintains that power as God gives him breath. Once he draws that last breath, he will have to stand before God and be judged on how he attained that power.

Citizens need Norton on bench
Judge David Norton has served the people of Hamilton County since 1984, when he joined the Hamilton County attorney's office. He was appointed judge for Soddy-Daisy in 1985 and was re-elected three times.
Judge Norton has done a superb job as General Sessions judge since March of this year, when he was appointed to fill Judge Bob Moon's seat. His legal knowledge and judicial temperament are what the citizens of Hamilton County need. There's not a learning curve for this position, which is why Judge Norton's experience is invaluable.

Blood donor ends 40 years as supplier
Last month, Blood Assurance celebrated its 40th anniversary. Last month, I celebrated my 40th anniversary as a donor of whole blood to Blood Assurance.
I have donated 184 pints, or 23 gallons, of whole blood. I believe that I am the top donor of whole blood to Blood Assurance.
As I am 92 years old and as I am having trouble with my hemoglobin count, I decided that it is time for me to retire as a donor.

Repeal is not the way to go
The Obama health-care package that the Republicans are trying to get rid of is, at best, a mediocre healthcare coverage for all Americans. But ...
Repeal is not the solution. Even the most right-wing conservative will agree that a bad plan is better than no plan at all. A bad plan can be fixed. A non-existent plan cannot be fixed. While the Republican congressional leadership seems fixed on seeing to it that all of us who are insured pay for all of those who are too lazy or too cheap to provide for themselves, this should not be the position taken by the present Congressman from the Third District of Tennessee.
Since he has voted with the leadership 95 percent of the time, however, we can be sure that he will vote for repeal. The other candidates are no better. Only the Democratic candidate seems to be reasonable. Perhaps she represents the views of the people.
It's enough to make the left look wonderful.

Opinion language shows contempt
The kind of insulting language you aimed at Sen. Lamar Alexander in the next-to-last paragraph of Thursday's (July 12) "Open letter to Alexander" was uncalled for and certainly did nothing to strengthen any argument you intended to make. Although I often disagreed with Mr. Lee Anderson, he was always gentlemanly in his remarks and never sank to your kind of expression of utter contempt.

Be factual in ranting tirades
The Free Press' continuing negative comments and ugly implications about President Obama's worthiness as our leader are disgusting. You could at least be more honestly factual regarding your ranting tirades, rather than just always pushing the envelope of fear and distrust.
The article, dated June 25, 2011, ("Taking the nation hostage") should be re-read by you and your staff. The article factually tells how our nation got in this mess under the previous leadership.
