The Chattanooga City Council will likely approve tonight adding a referendum on the November ballot that will change the city’s provisions for recalling the council and mayor.
The council took a consensus vote today during a Legal and Legislative Committee meeting and most agreed that the number of signatures on petitions required to recall the mayor should fall in line with state law, which says 15 percent of registered voters in the city are needed to sign a petition to force a recall election.
Council members also agreed that 15 percent of registered voters within a district should be the standard to recall a council member.
The council will vote tonight at its regularly scheduled 6 p.m. meeting.
