Ron Lane drag strip's Super Pro winner

Ron Lane of Hixson won the Super Pro class and $1,500 Saturday night at the Brainerd Optimist Drag Strip. The owner of Ron Lane Classic Cars won with a 5.13-second run on a 5.12 dial-in in his Chevrolet dragster powered by a 632-cubic-inch modified Chevy engine with injected alcohol and a nitrous oxide assist. Tracy Cochran of Flintstone was second in a dragster prepared by Jerry Wilson, and Jeremiah Powell and Eric Mann were third and fourth. Strip hall of famer L.C. Bigham again won the Foot Brake eliminations and $700, this time with an 8.38 run on an 8.38 dial in his 1972 Dodge Dart Swinger. Marty Goldsmith of Ringgold was second. Justin Moore of Georgetown was the Junior Dragster victor with Cleveland's Ryan Dennis second.

• Chattanooga's Lauren Johnson is tied for 71st after carding a 9-over-par 81 Monday in the first round of stroke-play qualifying in the U.S. Girls' Junior Amateur Championship at Lake Merced Golf Club in Daly City, Calif., and Baylor School teammate Blakesly Warren shares 97th place at 83. The low 64 after today's round will advance to match play. Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand leads with a 71. In the U.S. Junior boys' tournament at the Golf Club of New England in Stratham, N.H., Ringgold High School senior Brooks Thomas is tied for 127th out of 156 after shooting an 80 in the first qualifying round. Max McGreevy of Oklahoma City leads at 4-under 68.
