Blood results for a Chattanooga Police Department officer who was suspected of having alcohol in his system while working at Riverbend show he was below the legal limit, according to sources within the department.
Officer Steve Jones, 49, was placed on leave after another officer smelled alcohol on his breath at the annual event. Jones has worked at the department for 25 years.
Jones, who normally works in the traffic unit, was allowed to come back to work but assigned to property until an internal investigation is completed.
Jones, who was riding a patrol motorcycle at Riverbend, was working in a group of about six traffic investigators. The group was in charge of patrolling the Olgiati Bridge to ensure motorists did not stop to watch fireworks at the end of Riverbend.
Officers are not allowed to consume alcohol less than eight hours before a shift.
Because there was no wreck or other traffic infraction, there will be no criminal case against Jones.
