A 18-year-old sustained a gunshot wound to the leg Sunday night in the 3700 block of Seventh Avenue, according to Chattanooga Police Department.
Courtney Birt told officers he was walking home when he was approached by five young men in a car. After a brief conversation, one of the occupants fired a shot, wounding Birt, said Master Patrol Officer Nathan Hartwig in a released statement.
Birt ran away and was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries, Hartwig said.
This shooting marks the 47th shooting to date this year in the city. There were two more shootings the same time last year.
