Jim Coppinger is Hamilton County mayor. Commissioners appointed Coppinger in January 2011 to fill the seat of departing Claude Ramsey, who now serves as Tennessee’s deputy governor.

Coppinger previously served as District 3 County Commissioner and spent 28 years at the Chattanooga Fire Department, including eight years as chief. Coppinger attended Chattanooga State Community College and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He graduated from Hixson High School.
