DENVER - Multiple news outlets are reporting that the former neuroscience graduate student accused of killing 12 people in a Colorado movie theater sent a notebook to his university containing scribblings of stick figures being shot.

Citing unnamed law enforcement sources, Fox News' website reported that James Holmes sent the notebook to the school in a package that sat in a University of Colorado, Denver, mail room since at least July 12. It wasn't found until Monday.

Fox said the notebook contained drawings of stick figures being shot. NBC News, also citing unnamed sources, reported that Holmes told investigators to look for the package and that it described killing people.

The FBI and other law enforcement agencies refused to confirm the reports to The Associated Press. Holmes grew up in California.
