Nearly a year after a Cleveland, Tenn., woman died in a boating accident on the Hiwassee River, the boat's driver has been charged in her death.

Deonte "Tez" Davis, 33, has been indicted for vehicular homicide in the death of Misty Thompson, 32, after a lengthy investigation by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

Davis was manning a 20-foot motorboat near the Charleston boat ramp the evening of Aug. 11, 2011, when the boat struck a concrete pylon and Thompson was killed.

"She somehow hit her head. We rushed out there and attempted life-saving efforts, but her injuries were very extensive and she was declared dead shortly after," said Bradley County EMS spokesman Stan Clark.

The boat did not sink, and Davis was not injured.

Though TWRA has not released any details of its investigation, the Bradley County grand jury indictment handed down July 18 stated that Davis "did unlawfully and recklessly kill Misty Thompson by the operation of a motorboat."

Davis was arrested and released Tuesday on a $15,000 bond. He is scheduled for arraignment on Sept. 17.

Officials said Davis has a lengthy criminal record in Bradley County, including a 2006 conviction on drug charges.

Davis was not able to be reached for comment.
