The Presidency

about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

OKAY, BENNET, NOW YOU'VE GONE TOO FAR

In the past I've put up with you mocking republicans by highlighting their jaw dropping hypocritical lunacy and illustrating how the once Grand Old Party has become rather clownish lately.

You dare to show Romney with mussed up hair?

Maybe he really is deep down very smart, but he hasn't laid out his vision. He hasn't told why his experience at Bain will help the economy. He hasn't told us what he learned from running the Olympics and governing Massachusetts that will help him lead our country.

He has to develop a strategy of goverance beyond Bush 2.1.

BTW, 'dressage' is French for 'horse ballet,' but also describes an $80,000 tax credit.

Not likely. Mitt would turn that horse into sausages and glue.

Barack "57 States" Obama has been president for four years and still hasnt laid his vision for helping the economy (except for blaming Bush and wanting to tax rich people). He hasnt told how his experience will help (he never had any). He never ran anything in his life nor had he been an executive (where the buck stops here). The only talent he has is reading the teleprompter very well.

Both of these guys could turn the presidency into a position that would return us to full employment and world class leader---75% from Obama and 25% from Romney. Neither the mule nor the guy at the plow alone can produce sufficient food from the field.

NBC's Chuck Todd: Our Poll Was Skewed

“Remember that media polls are often nothing more than propaganda. They are used to reinforce a narrative that the media wishes to advance. If they conform to the media's agenda, they will report them honestly. But, if they go against that narrative, the media will either ignore or, as seems to be the case here, "juice" the numbers to be the preferred result. “ “In the end, though, the media is just deluding itself. In November, the voters will have the definitive say.”

This Bennett cartoon is idiocy. Obama doesn't even know what a plow is. He has never done any real work a day in his life. By the way, he is also well off. This idea that a rich Obama is the friend of the working man is dumb. He is like Trumpca and some of those union bosses that use the dues from Joe Six-pack for junkets and huge salaries and then "act" poor and you union guys are so dumb you let it happen.

Romney is successful. If you had a business you would hire him in a minute to run it. Obama is not even qualified to be a greeter at Walmart. He is an absolute insult to business people who have built this country. Before you make the illogical argument that Obama make about "you didn't build that" without roads, when this country was founded there were no roads but there was commerce. Things were bought and sold and roads were built on the backs to this commerce. Most roads were private toll roads. You liberal imbeciles should try to read a little history.

Romney's father was a self-made man. He left most of his fortune to the Morman Church. Did Romney get a leg up from his father? Of course he did but no more than you would help a son or daughter get into a business or trade.

Romney made his own money and has nothing to apologize for. Although he didn't send jobs overseas, I wouldn't care if he did. His job was to run that company as best he could for the benefit of his stock holders. It is just like he would do with the government. He will run it to the best of his ability in the best interest of the voters. I would tell you democrats all to go to hell.

The fact is that Obama is a third rate law professor with no business experience or understanding that WAS AND IS unqualified to run anything. The fact that you liberals vote for a loser like Obama shows that you have no idea what it takes to make this country work. You people are scary dumb. Obama and the rest of you are pathetic.

Are you sure about that? Half the cost? The cost of producing with coal can vary wildly depending on the assumptions about emissions controls. Are you assuming carbon sequestering for coal?

All I know is the biggest power plant in Atlanta switched, and in an interview the director said that kilowatts from natural gas cost 1/2 that of coal. Part of that may be the scrubbers are not needed; coal used today has higher sulfur content. Carbon dioxide is produced from both; natural gas has no mercury.

BTW I would choose domestic coal over imported oil, but it is nice that coal can be phased out for a cleaner domestic source. It is dangerous when mined underground, devastating to the environment when mined via mountain top removal. Yes, coal as a way of life will come to an end, but other economies have done do over the years (few people make their living developing film or making harness nowadays) and I feel for those families that will lose their living. I hope there are, (yes government), programs to aid these families in their transition. I can't imagine the coal companies themselves doing so.

In today's terms, coal is still cheaper than natural gas. The devil is in the details. Atlanta is a non-attainment area for emissions, so it would make sense that the costs of controlling emissions would be unusual. I have been looking for a good comparison of energy generation costs that highlight the differences in regulatory costs, especially current laws, verses Utility MACT, verses carbon sequestering. I thought you might know where to find that.

Babies come from women for a reason. Just look at the idiocy from con and you will know why. Do some research Con, it is the religious zealots of the world trying to make only boys that results in so many potential lives being thrown away. The anti-abortion people count all unintended pregnancies to arrive at your number. Lies and deciet. Con, when you grow one, a vagina, and pregnancy has anything to do with you, you might have an opinion worth considering. Until then, this issue is NONE OF YOUR DAMN BUSINESS. Until it comes out of my body, and as the bible says, God breathes LIFE into it, it aint yours. How dare you go against that bible you hold up to us so often! Just more Liars for Jesus. Hey Con, I don't think Jesus will like your lies. When you disregard your own belief, yet preach to us about being wicked, you are the wicked one. You do realize we can all read the bible now, right?

Genesis 2:7 New International Version (NIV)

7 Then the Lord God formed a man[a] from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis+2%3A7&version=NIV

See, breath is required. There is a reason women have the babies.

Timbo, if there is anybody who suffers from delusions of grandeur, it is you. You are definitely a legend in your own mind. I hate to break it to you, buddy, but just because you own and run a business, you didn't hang the moon.

It doesn't take much depth of thought or a detailed reading of the biographies of American presidents to know that business experience and expertise do not necessarily count for much when it comes to running the country. Only eight (8) of our presidents had any private sector business experience before becoming president. And the ones who were actually the most successful businessmen have gone down in history as being among our most incompetent presidents: Hoover and Carter were both highly successful in their businesses but... well, we all know how history has judged them. Lincoln and Truman both had brief and unsuccessful business gigs but Lincoln has become perhaps our greatest president, and Truman, at least a highly competent one, if not one of our better ones. Moreover, Lincoln kept his head in those law books so much, who'd have thought he had any practical sense about running a country?

Reagan never had a lick of business experience – hell, he never even got his hands dirty from manual labor. He got his Bachelor of Arts degree (that useless liberal arts crap that you conservatives rag on all the time) and from there he went briefly into radio broadcasting and from there straight into acting. He never had to wear a business suit (except when he played a business man in the movies) or never even worked for a company, let alone owned one. Would you be lambasting him for lack of business experience if he were the Republican presidential candidate today? I seriously doubt it. Not when that candidate suits your ideology.

Get over yourself, timbo. Business experience and acumen are fine and dandy, but that doesn't make you or any other business person/owner any more qualified to lead a nation.

As far as hanging the moon. I never said I did. I said my experience and accomplishments were as important as winning an election when 40% of the voters will vote for you no matter what.

The problem here is your candidate mocked and criticized business people and said "we didn't make that," not me. He is the arrogant SOB that hasn't the skills to do anything to make a living but right erroneous books and be a professional politician. You have got to be kidding. Certainly gender selection is a factor globally, but it is not the driver in this country.

”The anti-abortion people count all unintended pregnancies to arrive at your number.”

Of course it does. Unwanted pregnancies are the main motivator in this country.

” when you grow one, a vagina, and pregnancy has anything to do with you, you might have an opinion worth considering. Until then, this issue is NONE OF YOUR DAMN BUSINESS”

Maybe the person sporting the vagina should consider consequences of her actions before allowing herself to be impregnated. The male is certainly involved in conception and is held responsible for a role after birth. It seems odd that you want to give the woman absolute control of a being that was created by two people during a specific period.

”Until it comes out of my body, and as the bible says, God breathes LIFE into it, it aint yours. How dare you go against that bible you hold up to us so often! …Then the Lord God formed a man[a] from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”

Doesn’t your passage refer to the creation of Adam? Don’t you think it is a stretch to compare that event to the typical reproductive process?

It seems to me that you would hold your convenience in higher importance than the life of a child that you bear until that person has escaped the prison of your uterus. I pity the soul that is put in that position. Repulsive. Now go have some more unprotected sex…

1 in 4 clinically recognized pregnancies will end in miscarriage. If you do the math, that's around 1 million miscarriages per year and that's not even counting the miscarriage rate when modern medicine was still in it's infancy. In any animal species and in most societies, the life of the mother will ALWAYS take precedence over the life of the infant. The mother can always bear more children (given she is fertile). The child cannot. And the child is much more susceptible to disease and premature death than the mother.

Liberals have very little knowledge of the one true God of Scripture so I like to expose them to it. I wish more would join me. They call me names and lie about me but that form of persecution is expected. It doesn't bother me at all.

Mitt wasn't a big hit in Merry ole' London.

That audience yawned when he pandered, "I'm looking forward to the bust of Winston Churchill being in the Oval Office again."

Questioning whether or not Britain was "ready" to host the Olympics, Romney told NBC News: "There are a few things that were disconcerting. The stories about the private security firm not having enough people, the supposed strike of the immigration and customs officials – that obviously is not something which is encouraging."

Prime Minister David Cameron had his to say in response, "This is a time of some economic difficulty for the nation, everyone knows that. But look at what we're capable of achieving even at a difficult economic time. Look at this extraordinary Olympic Park, built from nothing in seven years," he said.

"In terms of people coming together, the torch relay demonstrated that this is not a London Games, this is not an England Games but this is a United Kingdom Games. We'll show the world we've not only come together as a United Kingdom but are extremely good at welcoming people from across the world."

London's Mayor Boris Johnson, said in front of a crowd of 60,000, "There are some people who are coming from around the world who don't yet know about all the preparations we've done to get London ready in the last seven years. I hear there's a guy, there's a guy called Mitt Romney who wants to know whether we're ready. He wants to know whether we're ready? Are we ready?" The crowd screamed, "Yes!"

"Are we ready?" Johnson asked again. "Yes, we are. The venues are ready, the stadium is ready. The aquatic center is ready, the security is ready, the police are ready, the transport system is ready, and our team GB athletes are ready, aren't they? Team GB is ready."

Prime Minister Cameron later in the day added, "We are holding an Olympic Games in one of the busiest, most active, bustling cities anywhere in the world. Of course it's easier if you hold an Olympic Games in the middle of nowhere,"

But Mitt's troubles began before he even landed.

An "anonymous" advisor of Mitt Romney's was quoted as having said to a Telegraph reporter, "We are part of an Anglo-Saxon heritage, and he [Romney] feels that the special relationship is special. The White House didn't fully appreciate the shared history we have."

Another advisor stated, "Obama is a left-winger. He doesn't value the NATO alliance as much. He's very comfortable with American decline and the traditional alliances don't mean as much to him. He wouldn't like singing 'Land of Hope and Glory.'"

When Romney was asked about the two statements from his advisors during a later interview with NBC, he disavowed the comments, saying he "doesn't agree with them."

Seems to me that Mitt Romney has at least one budding racist in the woodpile.

I'm betting that the advisor who made the "Anglo-Saxon heritage" reference, thought he was doing so off the record.

Mitt Romney didn't specifically deny that the two people worked for his campaign who were quoted by The Daily Telegraph. He said that he didn't agree with what they said.

http://video.msnbc.msn.com/nightly-news/48326969

Fast forward to 3:40 to see his response for yourself.

"Anytime a person refuses to be identified he is up to no good."

You've got that one right. A clever reporter knows exactly how to put someone at ease in order to entice them to "open up" and to express what's really on their mind.

"Seems to me you want to play the race card."

If you cannot see the racial implications of someone invoking that they and Mitt Romney are "part of an Anglo-Saxon heritage," when contrasting him to the President, then you are in complete denial.

It doesn't get any worse than that.

"You need to come up with the name of this anonymous person for it to be a valid comment."

No I don't. I didn't make the claim that a Mitt Romney Advisor offered those words.

The reporter who wrote the story said later on Twitter that the anonymous advisers "were members of the foreign policy advisory team."

The Telegraph, which stands by the piece, has stated that the paper has not received a request from the Romney campaign to retract or correct the story.

"Of course as a leftie you would have to jump right in the mud with both feet."

I'm hardly alone. Are you just now hearing about this? This was yesterday's news.

Going to church doesn't make you a Christian. Heck, you're also passing judgement. Your god says not to do that!

Reagan didn't go to church at all and G.W. Bush never became a regular member at any local church and attended infrequently.

"How do you athiest feel about his christian claim? You call the rest of us all sorts of names so why not him."

We call Christians names because of the hate and bigotry you spew and the immorality and ignorance that is taught in your holy book. All those things together with your denial of evolution and many other facts in modern science are the reason you are ridiculed.

Personally I don't care whether the president has any particular faith. Christian, Islam, Mormon, they're all the same to me. Many of our founding fathers were Deists, which is barely religious at all and certainly not Christian - though they didn't go around saying that in public too much. I suspect that most people who claim to be of some faith really aren't, but they just say that to go along with the crowd. I actually respect atheists as a group more, all things considered, because I think they are generally more logical and intellectually honest.

I really don't have anything against true believers though. If it makes you happy, go for it. While in my opinion religion is based on a fallacy, that doesn't diminish the value of the moral framework, social advantages, and comfort that it gives to its adherents.

Be that as it may, the snippets of Obama speeches posted earlier by TOES seemed very cherry-picked and taken out of context. When you edit film so much that you only get a phrase instead of even a whole sentence you can make people say whatever you want.

I actually appreciated the dark-ages history lesson Obama gave in one of the few uncut segments. We do sometimes forget that for hundreds of years the Islamic Middle Eastern nations were the enlightened ones and the Christian European nations were the barbarians - relatively speaking.

Can you read the text of that conversation? Clearly, he was stating that John McCain had never accused Barck Obama of being a Muslim. And that was the truth. John McCain was a perfect gentleman in that regard.

Talking off the cuff comes very hard for most people. The President is no different.

Had he rephrased his stement to be, "You're absolutely right that John McCain has never accused me of being a Muslim," there would be absolutely no controversy over what he said.

Any one of you folks who believe for one second that what the President said was an admission that he was a Muslim, are total idiots, and not one of you would likely sit in front of a reporter and parse your words perfectly in order to avoid mis-speaking.

Most of you would have a 'deer in the headlight' look on your face.

jesse, well, I hate to have to inform you of this, but that isn't the President or anybody else in government's responsibility, it's actually their job to prevent it.

Why? Because it'd be a war crime.

alprova, I'm quite sure not a one of them has ever misspoken, ever, nor has anybody they've ever voted for. Why they've never even had a typo, like you know wanting employment to be under 6%. So they're just being fair towards others and judging them as they judge themselves.

We must be understanding of their awesome perfection, it keeps them from empathizing with us lesser folks who are not as flawless as they.

There is absolutely no proof that he is not what he claims to be, and for anyone else, their personal testimony is good enough.

"In his book He says his boss told him if he wanted to be effective he needed to find a church to go to because the people he was trying to organize were church goers. He says thats when he started going to Wrights church."

"As I have written about in my books, I first joined Trinity United Church of Christ nearly twenty years ago. I knew Rev. Wright as someone who served this nation with honor as a United States Marine, as a respected biblical scholar, and as someone who taught or lectured at seminaries across the country, from Union Theological Seminary to the University of Chicago. He also led a diverse congregation that was and still is a pillar of the South Side and the entire city of Chicago. It's a congregation that does not merely preach social justice but acts it out each day, through ministries ranging from housing the homeless to reaching out to those with HIV/AIDS."

"Most importantly, Rev. Wright preached the gospel of Jesus, a gospel on which I base my life. In other words, he has never been my political advisor; he's been my pastor. And the sermons I heard him preach always related to our obligation to love God and one another, to work on behalf of the poor, and to seek justice at every turn."

"He has been president for 3.5 years and gone to church 3 times. A real good christian."

Here's a newsflash for you. You don't have to attend any church in order to be a Christian in good standing with God and his Son.

I think Obama is a weak leader and an economics idiot that couldn't manage well enough to make water run down hill. I don't like him or Romney. However, the video doesn't cause me to conclude he is a Muslim. Actually if I had to decide regarding his religion I would say he wasn't religious but like a majority pretended to be for political or business purposes. He could be an evangelist since he can rev people up with a speech and have them hollering a-man, telling it brother etc. as he tells them what they want to hear. For example...I am going to make sure the successful, the lucky and those that have it give some of it to you.

But of course. A conspiracy hatched 51 years ago to fraudulently claim that a baby born in Kenya of parents of differing races was born in Hawaii, in the off-chance that he would be elected President of the United States 47 years later.

Another conspiracy was born after this boy who became a man and had aged 28 years, while working for a Chicago law firm, 3 years before he married his spouse, 7 years before he had any political aspirations, and 10 years before his first child was born, when he joined a church and faithfully attended that church for 20 years, to hide the fact that he is a closet Muslim, or gasp,!! was not a religious man at all.

Does that just about sum it all up? Or have I missed something?

It would be totally laughable to read this crap, if not for the fact that some of you people actually believe in some or all of it.

I would write that you can't make this stuff up, but obviously it has been made up, and there are a bunch of you who walk around each day with hooks firmly attached in your upper lips.

You're losing this argument alpo. They put the disclaimer there because Obama's words speak for themselves. They took no liberties, they simply posted a video. What comes from the man's mouth is what is at issue. If he can recite koran verbatim, that in itself is very telling. Also, claiming Obama to be a "smart person" is a very broad minded assertion. Bush obviously had better grades in college. Where is all this "proof" of Obama's great wisdom? Other than the fact that you agree with him?

It's very telling of his knowledge, not his religion.

"Bush obviously had better grades in college."

Baseless claim.

"Where is all this "proof" of Obama's great wisdom"

Listen to him talk. He is very cultured and intelligent. Look at his education. He went to very prestigious schools. And the fact that people like you don't see any of this proves his wisdom.

jesse, if you say so, but I did not read it that way. Sorry that I mistook you then.

And unless Obama speaks Arabic fluently, he's not reciting the Koran verbatim to any real degree. If he does speak Arabic, than reading the Koran would be an expected part of his education as it is considered the classic and defining tome of that language.

Are you getting upset that Obama has speechwriters who might include references appropriate to the forum in his oration? What next, will you get upset that Kennedy and Reagan made German references?

There's nothing to argue about. The web is littered with that kind of crap. All but those who are complete morons can see it for what it is.

"They put the disclaimer there because Obama's words speak for themselves."

They put that disclaimer there to keep from being the target of a slander/libel lawsuit.

"They took no liberties, they simply posted a video."

No. They posted a collage of splintered and selectively edited clips, most taken completely out of the context that they were presented in, then wove them together to give the fraudulent appearance that the President is a Muslim.

"What comes from the man's mouth is what is at issue."

Armed with a video of you speaking at a podium for fifteen minutes, within two hours, I could produce a video that would have words coming out of your mouth that said that you like giving oral pleasure to members of the same gender.

Here...spend four minutes reading how easy it is to twist a man's words;

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/07/19/1111629/-Romney-video-crops-Obama-s-words-to-fabricate-the-quote-they-wish-he-d-said

"If he can recite koran verbatim, that in itself is very telling."

The only thing it telling about your reaction to him quoting the Qur'an in front of a group of Muslims, is that you are qur'anaphobic and Islamaphobic. You clearly know nothing about Islam, nor have taken any time whatsoever to study the religion. All you know is what other ignorant people have expressed, who equally and ignorantly abhor the religion.

Does the Westboro Baptist Church represent the average Christian? I would hope that you would answer "no." Conversely, Radical Muslims do not represent the average Muslim.

"Also, claiming Obama to be a "smart person" is a very broad minded assertion."

Say what you will, but clearly, the man is far more educated than you are. Considering where he is and where you are in each of your lives, I find it quite laughable for you to opine on how smart the man is.

"Bush obviously had better grades in college."

Bush was definitely no scholar. Bush held an average of 70 in Sociology and a 71 in Economics. He did better with History and Japanese.

"Where is all this "proof" of Obama's great wisdom? Other than the fact that you agree with him?"

I could go to the trouble to dig up all kinds of evidence that the man has quite a bit going on upstairs, but what good would it do?

You're firmly convinced that the man is as dumb as a box of rocks, and you wouldn't give him the time of day, no matter what evidence exists out there that the man is quite intelligent.

So, like the hands-off approach that I have adopted with others who have the same outlook of the man as yourself, I'll not be indulging any of your requests that I know are a complete waste of time.

That's the problem. How can you blame anybody for that wackiness, except for Jones and the weak minded souls who got swept away by his temple of religion? We would all be screaming for separation of church and state if Mitt were to unveil a fourth testament of the Bible. What would he call it, I wonder. The Book of Even Mormon? Weird wild stuff.

I don't speak for the President.

"This guy gives hate speech new meaning."

There was nothing at all hateful in what the man said. He spoke some very fundamental truths. Did you even hear them?

Now some might question the man's reference to Jesus being a "black man," but to be perfectly honest, nobody on this Earth can dispute or cite with any certainty, the skin color of Jesus.

You nor I have any idea what it means to be black in this country and to still suffer any of the injustices that plague them in their daily lives.

Until Barack Obama was elected President, this country was indeed ruled 100% by rich, white men.

Look at the crap still being lobbed at him, even by yourself. No President has ever had to endure the pure, unadulterated crap that Barck Obama has.

From doubts about his birth certificate, to his choice of religion, to every Federal employee who hasn't paid their income taxes in years, to being blamed for every single solitary incident or ill that plagues this nation, the man has been virtually held responsible for it all.

What sets him apart from every other President ever elected to the office in this nation, is his skin color. Thus, there is no way that anyone can convince me that racial bigotry and hatred does not play a part in the reason that the man is so demeaned on a daily basis.

As God is my witness, if I had a dollar for every time I heard the man referred with the "N" word over the past three and a half years, I would be as rich as Bill Gates.

Ignorant, bigoted, moronic, juvenile, brainwashed, self-righteous, and simple-minded people make me want to vomit. I have never been so ashamed in my life to be associated in any manner with many of those who share my human DNA.

There are literally dozens of images of the President eating pork. Google them.

"On Friday morning in Ohio, the President ate breakfast at Ann's Place, a diner in Akron. Sitting at the counter with three Goodyear employees, the President enjoyed two eggs over medium, with a side of bacon, wheat toast and grits."

You might recall that the owner of that establishment, Josephine 'Ann' Harris, unfortunately died shortly after she met the President.

I've never seen the President eat at all. Nor Mitt Romney. Maybe they're both Robots. I heard Mitt Romeny refer to Cheesy Grits once, which just tells me he was faking Southern Authenticity in a spectacularly amusing way, but other than that, I've never heard either mention food.

They must be robots. It's the only logical explanation.
