Bicycle Ride Across Georgia gearing up

Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School, 1850 Battlefield Parkway, will be the starting point for the Bicycle Ride Across Georgia, an eight-day, fully supported tour from Fort Oglethorpe to Tiger.

Daily distance will average 54 miles. Total distance is 376 miles. Stops are scheduled along the way for food, liquids and porta-potties.

Each riders' baggage is transported by truck each day to the overnight campsite. At each destination, riders may pitch a tent outdoors or sleep in a large indoor facility, usually a gym or school hallway.

Support personnel in cars patrol the route to offer assistance if needed. Shower trucks and mechanics also are part of the convoy.

On-site registration will take place from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday. Late arrivals can register 6-7 a.m. Sunday at BRAG headquarters. There will be an introduction for first-timers and a children's safety meeting at 5 p.m. Saturday.

The first ride, on Sunday, is 50 miles south to Dalton. The overnight stop is Dalton High School, 1500 Manly St.
