1 Earle received the 2011 Americana Music Award for Song of the Year for "Harlem River Blues."

2 The Nashville native is now based in New York's East Village.

3 In 2010, he spoke to the Wall Street Journal about his drug and alcohol abuse and the bar fight that led to a night in jail.

4 According to Earle's website, his influences range from Randy Newman to Woody Guthrie, Chet Baker to the Replacements, and Phil Ochs to Bruce Springsteen.

5 He released his latest record, "Nothing's Gonna Change the Way You Feel About Me," in March.
