Around 9 p.m., employees with Hawker Power Source, 9404 Ooltewah-Industrial Drive, called 9-1-1 to report a warehouse fire, according to Hamilton County EMS spokeswoman Amy Maxwell.
Employees were building a large battery for a commercial truck when it caught fire, according to Chief Dennis Thomason of the Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department. Hawker Power Source employees worked to contain the fire while others called authorities.
Firefighters responded minutes after being notified and reported heavy smoke coming out of the warehouse, Maxwell said. Hamilton County EMS responded to the scene to assist an employee complaining of smoke inhalation, she said.
Firefighters are currently ventilating the smoky warehouse, Maxwell said.
