A Canton, Ga., man was sentenced in Whitfield County today to five years in prison and 15 more on probation for attempting to commit child molestation.
Lenwyn Ramkellawan, 51, was convicted by a jury in April for criminal attempt to commit aggravated child molestation and criminal attempt to commit child molestation, according to the Conasauga Circuit District Attorney’s office.
Evidence showed Ramkellawan communicated by telephone and email with an undercover officer believed to be the stepfather of a 14-year-old girl, said District Attorney Bert Poston in a news release. Ramkellawan then traveled to a Dalton motel to have sex with the stepdaughter, but was arrested instead, Poston said.
At his sentencing hearing, Ramkellawan’s wife and daughters as well as other supporters testified on his behalf.
Ramkellawan is a Canadian citizen and may be deported after his prison sentence, and he also will be subject to sex offender conditions, Poston said.
