Chattanooga Football Club romps with Winter barrage, 6-0

Too many shots had been missing wide, slamming the crossbar or glancing off a post in the first few games of the season for the Chattanooga Football Club.

The shot didn't hit a post or crossbar Saturday night.

Chattanooga slammed Myrtle Beach FC 6-0 at Finley Stadium with Luke Winter scoring three goals in just over 60 minutes before subbing out.

"We really looked to attack," said Winter, who played at Tennessee Wesleyan. "It was also important to get the shutout."

Winter's first goal came on a cross from John Carrier. Winter headed the ball in a few yards from the goal eight minutes into the game.

Carrier put CFC (3-1-2) ahead 2-0 on a breakaway that left him one-on-one with keeper Mikey Alley of the Mutiny (2-4).

Winter scored again in the 50th minute on a clearout by Michael Brooks. Winter earned a hat trick when he cleaned up a shot by Carrier that Alley knocked down.

"Once we got one, we knew we would get more," Carrier said. "We had the team spirit going tonight."

Sean McFarlane scored two goals in the final 15 minutes. The first came on an assist from Moises Drumond; then two minutes later he had Alley one-on-one and McFarlane flipped it in the net.

"We did a better job of spreading their defense and that gave us gaps," CFC coach Bill Elliott said. "I told them after practice yesterday that once we get a goal, they'll come in buckets.

"It felt like in previous weeks we couldn't have that breakthrough moment, and hopefully this gives us momentum moving forward."
