HELEN, Ga. (AP) — Police in the north Georgia mountain town of Helen are investigating shootings that claimed the lives of two people.

The Times of Gainesville reports (http://bit.ly/KkYoLv) that the gunfire happened Sunday in the town, which is about 85 miles northeast of Atlanta.

White County Deputy Coroner Jim Etheridge identified the victims as 18-year-old Karly Nicole Patterson; and 20-year-old Kyle Kerr.

The coroner said Patterson was pronounced dead at 2:25 p.m. Sunday, and Kerr died later at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

The Times reports that Helen’s police chief didn’t return calls seeking comment. White County Sheriff Neal Walden said the county agency was not involved in the investigation, but deputies helped secure an area after the shooting.
