Georgia releases depth chart

Georgia unveiled its post-spring football depth chart Tuesday afternoon in Macon to coincide with coach Mark Richt's appearance at the annual Pigskin Preview featuring the state's top programs.

The depth chart contained the expected -- Aaron Murray at No. 1 quarterback and Jarvis Jones at No. 1 outside linebacker -- but one unknown as well. Merritt Hall, a 5-foot-11, 216-pound redshirt freshman from Alpharetta, Ga., was listed as the top fullback, ranking ahead of Richard Samuel and Alexander Ogletree.

"Merritt had a great spring," Richt told reporters at the event. "He learned what to do, and he was striking people with a lot of enthusiasm. He would have earned the right to be the starter at the end of spring, so we put it on the board that way."

Georgia signed another fullback, Quayvon Hicks, in February.

Ken Malcome and Isaiah Crowell were bracketed as the No. 1 tailbacks, while Tavarres King and Marlon Brown were the top receivers. Former Dalton High lineman Watts Dantzler is the No. 2 right tackle behind Kolton Houston, and former Ridgeland defensive back Devin Bowman is listed as a third-team cornerback behind Sanders Commings and Malcolm Mitchell.

Running the table?

Several Las Vegas oddsmaskers in recent days have established early lines for the 2012 season, and multiple services expect the Bulldogs to be favored in all 12 of their regular-season games.

"I hope they're right," Richt said in Macon. "We've got potential, but we really haven't done anything yet, and we know that. Preseason predictions are fun to talk about, but we've got to get the job done."
