Why she won

For years Whitfield suffered a condition that, without warning, would cause her to faint because of a sudden spike in her heart rate. But just 11 months after undergoing a five-hour surgery to have a pacemaker implanted, the Chattanooga Christian senior was able not only to return to the playing field she loves so much, but she also played in every soccer match last season.

"I have a passion for soccer. I love to win and want to be the best I can be. I've always been motivated to do the best I can. Having to get a pacemaker is definitely something that has pushed me even more to be successful. "
