Wacker makes 100 job offers

Nearly 100 students at the Wacker Institute at Chattanooga State Community College have received conditional job offers from Wacker Polysilicon, the company said today.

Also, another 13 students received offers from the company for chemical operator positions, the German company said in a press release.

“We are invested in the Wacker Institute program because we are invested in the people who operate our plants,” said Dr. Konrad Bachhuber, vice president and site manager for Wacker Polysilicon North America, in a statement.

Erika Burk, human resources director for Wacker Polysilicon North America, said many of the students are still a year away from obtaining their degrees.”

“We want to express our commitment to them with these offers — they know a career is waiting for them once they graduate,” she said.

Wacker plans to extend at least 50 more conditional job offers to students at the Institute for chemical operator positions. The next interviews will take place later this year. Students interested in receiving an offer are encouraged to enroll at the Institute for the fall semester, according to the company.

Wacker is building a $1.8 billion plant in Bradley County where it will produce polysilicon for the solar industry. It plans to employ 650 people.
