SOUTH PITTSBURG, Tenn. -- The South Pittsburg Housing Authority will host a Father's Day Celebration this Saturday.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. CDT in the Hemlock area of South Pittsburg, officials said.

Housing Authority Director Terry Case said the celebration is a way to try and reconnect families through a communitywide event.

"What we want to do is get people some quality family time together," he said. "The community is welcome to come down and just chill out for four or five hours and have some fun."

The event is free to the public, and the whole community is invited, officials said.

"If anyone wants to participate or volunteer, we'd love to have them there," Case said. "I've already got a volunteer or two that said they were going to help me, but I could always use more."

The event will feature several sports tournaments, bounce houses for kids, food booths and plenty of soft drinks and snow cones, he said.

"We're hoping to have some fireworks, too, if we can get connected with someone who can do that for us later that night," Case said.

South Pittsburg Mayor Mike Killian said he thought the event was a great idea to get families together around Father's Day, and finding fireworks shouldn't be a problem.

"If you can't find any fireworks around South Pittsburg, you can't find them anywhere else," he said.

"We may even have some water for the kids if we can get the firetrucks down there, but we'll do what we can," Case said. "This is all for the families."
