Documentary looks at race at University of Chattanooga

A new documentary about the desegregation of the University of Chattanooga (now the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga) will air Sunday at 2 p.m. on WTVC-TV NewsChannel 9.

"Reaching the Light: The Story of the Desegregation of the University of Chattanooga," features interviews with black students, former University of Chattanooga faculty members and local civil rights leaders who were involved in the events of the early 1960s.

The documentary, produced by current UTC faculty members, looks at efforts by city leaders and university trustees to make the desegregation process "one of the most peaceful in the nation," according to a news release.
