Jim Higgins has been named wrestling coach at Soddy-Daisy.

Higgins was an assistant on the 2011-2012 team that won the Class AAA state duals and the traditional state tournament.

A former state champ for the Trojans, Higgins is replacing Steve Henry, a veteran who put the school’s program on the map and took the Trojans to numerous state championships.

“This wasn’t about hiring a guy who wrestled in college but about a guy that’s hungry and committed and has a vested interest in the program,” said Henry, who has assumed new duties as the school’s assistant principal and athletic director.

“In my world this is about as close to a dream job as you can possibly get,” Higgins said. “This year in general has been a whirlwind experience, getting into the Hamilton County school system and then getting teaching and coaching positions. This is great news.”
