The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football coaching staff has lost another assistant coach. Linebackers coach Tony Coode has left the program to join the staff at Ringgold High School, Mocs coach Russ Huesman said.

"I think family-wise it's a good situation for [Coode]," Huesman said. "He did a nice job for us and we had him for three good years. I hate to see him go."

Coode is the fifth assistant coach to leave the staff this offseason and the fourth UTC alumnus. There's nothing to be read into that, Huesman said, other than the coaches decided to do what was best for their careers or families.

UTC also lost running backs coach Jamaal Fobbs, offensive line coach Geep Wade, defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey and tight ends coach Russ Ehrenfeld. Wade, Lindsey and Ehrenfeld played at UTC, as did Coode.

"It just so happened that we had some UTC guys on the staff and at the time it was probably important to have some, but in life your objective is to take care of your family," Huesman said. "Every move that these guys made is a move to help, whether it's financially or for different reasons. ... Nobody left sneaking out. We shook hands, thanked them for all they did and they thanked us."

Austin Plemons, whom everyone calls "Bear," has been helping the coaches the past two seasons as a student assistant. Huesman said Plemons will join the staff as a defensive coach after he graduates this summer.

Plemons played for offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield's father, Bill, at Greenback High School and had a brief career at Lambuth University. Huesman said Plemons will handle some of Coode's duties, including prepping the scout team defense.

UTC will also have former defensive tackle Nick Davison helping coach the defensive line. Davison is still on scholarship as he finishes his degree, and he can coach without counting as one of UTC's assistants.

"We'll go through the fall like this and then see where we are after the fall," Huesman said.

APR released today

The NCAA will release the latest batch of Academic Progress Rate scores today and UTC will have single-year scores above 900 in all of its 17 sports for 2010-11, including perfect scores of 1,000 in 11.

Last week, the men's golf team was among the schools recognized by the NCAA for having a four-year average of 1,000.

No more signings

The Mocs have signed two transfers during the offseason in former Georgia defensive lineman Derrick Lott and North Carolina State safety Dean Haynes. Huesman said he didn't anticipate signing anyone else before players report in early August.

Kickoffs almost set

The start times for nine of the Mocs' 11 games have been set. Only the games at Furman (Oct. 13) and at Wofford (Nov. 10) have "TBA" listed for the kickoff time on their websites.
