United Sprint Car Series points leader Tim Crawley of Benton, Ark., took his fifth series win this year Saturday night before a packed crowd at Cleveland Speedway. Crawley started outside defending champion Terry Gray of Bartlett, Tenn., on the front row and raced to victory with Gray finishing second and Eric Riggins Jr. of Charlotte, N.C., coming in third. Derek Hagar of Marion, Ark., was fourth with Anthony Nicholson of Bartlett fifth and Matt Linder of Hoschton, Ga., sixth. Lookout Mountain's Aubrey Black was 11th. Crawley earlier won the Goodyear Speed Dash and the first heat in the winged open-wheel cars, and 2010 USCS rookie of the year Morgan Turpen of Oakland, Tenn., won the second heat. She was running third in the main race before a wreck ended her evening.

• The four-man 70-74 age-group cycling team that included Signal Mountain's Durwood Higgins completed the Race Across America on Saturday in Annapolis, Md. The United 4 Health team covered the 2,993.24 miles in six days, 13 hours and 13 minutes. Their 19.04 mph average as their age group's lone entry was considerably faster than that of the first-place 50-59 four-man team (18.28).

• One participant did turn in a sub-four-minute mile in Saturday's Market Street Mile from the Tennessee Aquarium Plaza. Wheelchair entrant Tim Phillips of Rossville, who also had the fastest times in the most recent Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon and Chickamauga Chase, finished the flat downtown course in 3 minutes, 57 seconds Saturday. He's 64 years old.

Fishing

• PARIS, Tenn. -- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's "A" team of Parker Bacon with Taylor Bolton and Trent Huie with Ryan Houston finished fifth in the Collegiate Bass Fishing Open tournament Saturday and Sunday on Kentucky Lake. With a pair of two-man boats allowed three fish each per day, the Mocs anglers were fifth with 17.10 pounds the first day and stayed there with 17.47 pounds Sunday. A UNC Charlotte team won the event conducted by BoatUS with a 41.07 total, and North Carolina State was second with 40.18. Georgia Southern University's fishing series comes this week to Chickamauga Lake. That tournament runs Saturday and Sunday out of Chester Frost Park.
