Second boy dead after incident at Bradley County home

The 5-year-old brother of a 3-year-old Bradley County boy who died Thursday after an incident at a home also died this afternoon, authorities said.

Bob Gault, spokesman for the Bradley County Sheriff's Office, said Leland Bates died at Children’s Hospital at Erlanger.

Leland’s brother, River Bates, died Thursday while in an ambulance en route to SkyRidge Medical Center in Cleveland.

The boy’s mother, Tasha Moses, called 911 just before 3 p.m. Thursday to report a possible drowning involving her children, Gault said. The call came from her father’s home at 851 Armstrong Road, he said.

Deputies learned that the children had been taken from 879 Keith Valley Road to Armstrong Road because there was no phone at the Keith Valley Road location, Gault said.

An autopsy is being done on River Bates, Gault said. The investigation by the sheriff’s department’s Criminal Investigations Division is ongoing, he said.
