A tractor trailer split apart after crashing into the Ringgold Road bridge over I-75, East Ridge Police said this morning.

The crash resulted from a collision seconds earlier between the tractor trailer and a Toyota Camry traveling south on the interstate around 10 a.m, police spokesman Erik Hopkins said.

The driver of the Camry lost control of the vehicle, which began to spin and struck the tractor trailer head-on, Hopkins said.

The driver of the Camry was transported to Erlanger Medical Center by Lifeguard EMS his condition is unknown, said Hopkins.

The condition of the truck driver was not immediately known.

The truck had been carrying produce to Statesboro, Ga.

"Produce was covering two lanes of I-75," Hopkins said.

Officials with the Tennessee Department of Transportation responded to the scene to ensure the bridge was not critically damaged and to assist in the removal of produce, said Hopkins.
