'Cat in the Hat' theme for CDM's AmuseUm

The Dr. Seuss book "The Cat in the Hat" will come to life Saturday at Creative Discovery Museum's annual fundraiser AmuseUm, a party for adults that benefits kids.

Events will begin at 7 p.m. Dress is casual, and tall, striped hats are optional.

Silent and live auctions, dubbed "Pick Up Your Playthings," will offer a range of items. An online auction will continue through Feb. 29 at www.cdmfun.org/amuseum, with bids accepted for, among other prizes, a family excursion to Nashville, a 2012 parking space behind the museum and two season passes to see the city's soccer team, the Chattanooga Football Club.

During the evening, guests will dine on Lee Towery Catering's "Fun & Funny Foods," play "Up, Up, Up With a Fish" and "Show Us Your Tricks" on the dance floor and indulge in the "More Than Just Cake" Dessert Lounge.

"We are excited about this year's event, as it is sure to appeal to individuals who remember the magic of Dr. Seuss," said Henry Schulson, executive director. "Dr. Seuss has inspired thousands of children to love to read. In the same way, Creative Discovery Museum inspires children every day to explore, innovate, create and play."

Two reservation levels are available: $125 for VIPs and $85 general admission. The funds raised from AmuseUm help CDM offer quality programs and exhibits to its nearly 250,000 visitors, including 50,000 schoolchildren.

The museum is at 321 Chestnut St. To make reservations call 648-6085 or visit the museum website.
