AIKEN, S.C. - The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's golf team finished ninth Tuesday in the 18-team Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate tournament. The Mocs shot an aggregate 877, 23 behind winner Clemson. Two of UTC's Southern Conference rivals, Furman and College of Charleston, were sixth at 873 and eighth at 875. UTC's Steven Fox tied for 14th individually at 217 and Stephan Jaeger tied for 21st at 218, while Liam Johnston and Alex Ratliff shot 223s and Davis Bunn totaled 227.
• DADE CITY, Fla. -- Senior Hunter Green from Rhea County tied for 10th at 216 and sophomore Brett Patterson from McMinnville shared 12th place at 217 as Middle Tennessee State finished sixth in the 17-team USF Invitational golf tournament Tuesday. The Blue Raiders had an 878 total, 24 behind winner Central Florida.
• ROME, Ga. -- The Lee University women's golf team won its fourth consecutive tournament title with a 36-hole 620 Monday and Tuesday at Coosa Country Club, while the Lee men wound up seventh at 605 in their part of the Rome News-Tribune Invitational at Stonebridge. Cumberlands was the men's winner with a 586, and LaGrange's Hudson Keener from Dalton was the medalist with a 139 (66-73). Lee's Jeremy Lawson was seventh at 148 with Tyler Smith 15th at 149. Led by Courtney Shelton's fourth-place 154, the Lady Flames beat runner-up Shorter by six strokes. Lee's Sloane Skinner and Madison Alexander shared fifth at 155; Geandra Almeida tied for eighth at 159.
Basketball
• JACKSON, Tenn. -- The Cleveland State men's basketball team edged Dyersburg State 75-69 in overtime as the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII basketball tournament got under way Tuesday. Nick Ross scored 29 points, 23 after halftime, and Travis Jones had 17 points, 10 rebounds and five assists for the Cougars (14-13), who face second-seeded Southwest Tennessee tonight. Keith Johnson had 14 first-half points in the win. Brandon Jones scored 25 for Dyersburg (8-18). Dyersburg beat the Lady Cougars 64-56 in the last game of the night. Jessica Harper scored 14 points and Chelsea Jones and Shanavian Woodland added 10 each for Cleveland State (12-16), while Sharonda Brabson and Jasmine Duke had 20 and 16 for Dyersburg. Volunteer State downed Walters State's men 69-53, and Jackson State defeated the Roane State women 68-54.
• Tennessee Temple University (8-22) and Covenant College (6-19) tip off the NCCAA Mid-East Region women's basketball tournament in a 6 p.m. game Thursday at Temple, followed by Hiwassee College against Oakland City at 8. The sixth-seeded Covenant Scots (8-17) face third seed Bluefield (18-15) in the men's regional Thursday at 5 p.m. at Hiwassee's gym in Madisonville. Hiwassee faces Victory University at 7 and that winner takes on top-seeded Trevecca Nazarene (18-11) at 7 p.m. Friday, after No. 2 seed Temple (14-15) plays the Bluefield-Covenant winner at 5. The men's region final is set for 2 p.m. Saturday. Bluefield and Asbury are the top seeds for the women's tournament and get into action at 6 and 8 Friday evening with the final at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Softball
Jacksonville State freshman first baseman Shelby Holley from Pisgah, Ala., was the Ohio Valley Conference softball player of the week after stretching her hitting streak to 11 games and getting two hits in three of the Gamecocks' four games at Georgia Tech's Buzz Classic. She walked five times in the tournament and had a .570 on-base percentage. She hit three homers in Friday's two games, giving her 10 for the season.
Fishing
Mike Cross of Chickamauga was the top co-angler in the Walmart Bass Fishing League Choo Choo Division tournament last Saturday on Lake Guntersville. He weighed five fish totaling 25 pounds, 15 ounces and got $2,474. Scottsboro's Trent Wright tied for seventh with 18-5, and Crossville's Kibbee McCoy was 10th with 17-8, while fellow Tennesseans Todd Harris of Athens, David Perron of Dayton, Cody Frazier of Soddy-Daisy, Tim Cody of Charleston and Chris Holland of Winchester were 16th, 17th, 19th, 21st and 23rd. Jordan Lee of Auburn, Ala., was the pro winner with 27-7, good for $4,948. Billy Brindle of Calhoun, Ga., was sixth with 21-15 and got $907; Charleston's Thomas Helton was 20th with 18-2, and Rainsville's Lee Pitts, Estill Springs' Freddy Palmer, Dunlap's Marshall Deakins and Section's Jason Atkins also were in the money at 22nd, 24th, 26th and 30th.

Sewanee goalkeeper Amy Nusbaum was the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's lacrosse defensive player of the week after making a career-high 15 saves last Saturday against Denison. She has 45 saves for the 3-1 Tigers. Teammate Meg Welton was the SCAC's offensive honoree the week before.
