The Ballot

about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

Well!! That confirms it -- Bennett is a dyed-in-the-wool, not-so-closeted, racist. That bit of demagogy and associated doggerel is pretty well barred throughout the nation because of its racial overtones. It's right up there with the N-word...matter of fact, it was included.

Congrats, Bennett. The Cain Cartoon was just your beginning; I can hardly wait to see your next racist effort -- depicting Rep West in whiteface, perhaps?

March 12, 2012 at 10:14 p.m.

That's a later racist version, the original has no such connection, and rather than banned, you'll find it in nursery rhyme books throughout the country. It's almost like you don't even realize you're just grasping at straws.

Keep trying to play your race card, you'll just keep fouling yourself.

But Allen West? This isn't a Florida paper in whichever cities the district West is running to represent might cover. If they ever set them, since the governor is suing for the right to Gerrymander.

Anyway, what's the difference between each Republican, besides whatever dirt the others can pile on him? They're all promising to do the same things.

There you go again. Do you idiots really believe that reversing reality works on anyone but yourselves? You've been trying to call Liberals racist for years, as if African Americans or Asian Americans or Hispanics are too stupid to see through your lame triteness. Especially with that demeaning, racist avatar you sport next to your 1950's brain flatulence. The world will be a better place after all you walking anachronisms die off.

As this four-ring circus called the GOP primary continues to run its course, the Obama team will already have their media productions ready for the November election by just playing reruns of the right-wing character assaults they did on each other.

The republican primary is an exercise in futility, none of them can beat Obama. The NRC should concentrate on keeping control of the house and gaining control of the senate creating a grid lock which is the the best situation for everyone. The less the federal government does the better we are served. Over 4,000 pieces of legislation in the past few years is ridiculous. The inevitable economic calamity on our way means the winners in this election will ultimately be the biggest losers.

Of course he will use what the Republican candidates said about each other for his campaign. This is all he can do because everything he has done has failed. This pathetic fool you worship as God cannot run on his own pathetic record. I really wish he was man enough to tout his accomplishments but he cannot because he has none. The people that will keep him in office are inherently incompetent of making a decision to vote for a competent president. Kind of like you and happywithbeinganidiot. I say you liberals worship him as a God as I have never witnessed you liberals talking about the many failures of this pathetic fool you have as president you are so mesmerized by. You have not ever mentioned any of his accomplishments. This pathetic fool you worship as president has consistently lied to his followers and yet you still do not hold him accountable. It is like you all belong to a Marxist cult and Obama is the Jim Jones of this cult. Keep drinking the Kool Aide and you will have the same end result as Jim Jones. It has been proven over and over again that Marxist Regimes like Obama wants do not work. With Obama creating hate between different factions of society he is leading us straight to a civil war in this country like no country has ever seen. Be prepared.

There are commercials using this same rhyme. To many people, including myself, the next line has always been "catch a TIGER by his toe." I don't really care what the rhyme was before that.

My point is people like joneses and rolando are incapable of having an adult conversation, one that is free of insult and based on factual information, so they resort to school yard name calling.

Also, they all claim to be highly religious people. However, they continually judge others, insult them, and show a level of disrepect for THEIR President that is infuriating to me.

Having said that, it's fun to come read the comments under Clay's cartoons. Keep up the good work, Clay. I usually don't agree with your political points of view, but you sure do know how to create a buzz.

Poll taken where likely Republican voters respond to them will show that every time. They're meaningless. I can point you to polls that claim the opposite, in that Obama polls higher than any of the Republican candidates.

It all will be up to those who actually vote, and not people who take polls. The truth will come to light on November the 6th.

"Where are Democrats getting this idea that he's so beloved? You're nuts. Oh, oh, you must all be thinking that this is 2008 and he didn't have a record to run on."

But he now does have a record to run on. You'll learn more about it once the Republican nominee emerges from the pack of scrappers. Contrary to the belief and despite the attempts to discredit the President by all you Obama-haters, the man has done a decent job as President.

After watching "Game Change" for the third time one can't help but wonder when will the Repubs learn? Why continue to put up candidates who can't win? Once the general election campaign starts in the Fall it's going to be like watching a re-run of the campaign of '08. Only Romney is not even as good as McCain was and if he should pick a female candidate and she turns out to be another disaster walking like Palin it will be a loss far worse than McCain had in '08.
At one point in 2004, Dems had to face the fact W was going to be re-elected to a second term and Kerry was not going to win. It turned out to be the worst thing for this country but none the less it was inevitable. Barack Obama was handed the disastrous results of those eight years of having Bush in the White House. (It was so disastrous until John McCain ran as far away from what Bush had done as he possibly could but in the end it caught him and his "know-nothing" running mate.) No one on this earth could have changed things for this country any faster than President Obama. Bush and his cronies dug a hole that was eight years in the making. It will take at least eight years to get out of it and none of the current crop of Republican candidates have the know-how or the tools to get out of it.

In all reality, there is only one candidate who can win. Santorum or Gingrich would have to win between 70 and 80% of all the delegates, going forward, in order to even have a chance of receiving the nomination.

Neither man has a chance of winning California, Utah, or New Jersey, where all three are winner-takes-all states, and where 262 delegates hang in the balance.

Texas is up for grabs, according to the latest polls. The 155 delegates in that state are apportioned.

"The liberal and conservative medis are anxious to have only two so they can cut back on the cost of having a journalist and crew with 4 candidates."

Get real. Ron Paul isn't even in the race any longer. He's nothing but a distraction and a drag on the nomination process at this point. Gingrich, at the very least, has won two contests and may, and I do mean may, win a third. He's toast after Alabama and Mississippi.

ROLANDO IS A PROJECTIONIST

Clay's cartoon graphically conveyed the lack of a clear cut GOP front runner. Even republican insiders are admitting the possibility of a brokered convention in Tampa. Anything beyond that has more to do with Rolando's personal baggage. Maybe if he chose a different avatar...

BobMKE posted a killer response. Well done, sir.

March 13, 2012 at 9:24 a.m.

BobMKE, the problem is the GOP candidates seem to take that as a literal campaign slogan. It's funny, the Republicans are voting for the Yellow Dogs now.

Too bad that Romney's dog emigrated to Canada, you could vote for him instead of the father of everything in Obamacare.

Winner, it's a rhyme after the original, not how it started, but how it was twisted. No different than somebody rewriting the national anthem in a parody. Well, except for a parody being non-serious. Some racist would probably be earnest in their attempt.

March 13, 2012 at 9:41 a.m.

Of course, it's all one big mistake. He is adored and loved, just like the late North Korean dictator. His record sucks, there's no getting around it, yet, somehow people will just magically forget about it when they go to vote, just after they fill their cars up to the tune of $5 to $6 a gallon. He'll get by on his "good looks" and "charm". Astounding.

You're in for a rude awakening if you're expecting a landslide in November. He's not Ronald Reagan, he's much closer to Ronald McDonald.

March 13, 2012 at 10:03 a.m.

Clay was just applying liberal decision making policy to the republican side. Go easy on him. It's hard to make a decision when you know nothing about your candidate except for the racial half he claims. Why doesn't he claim his white half? Doesn't not claiming it make him a racist?

How sad it must be for people like you and the Palins of the world to always fear you're going to be found out for your lack of knowledge not only about the world around you but even your own country. Ignorance like yours and the Palins of the world is the enemy of democracy. Always has been and always will be.

The pot calling the kettle black nooga? Isn't this the same problem the lib media is having right now with the slutgate scandal? You know, all those liberals that called conservative women all sorts of names, some far more insulting than slut and have always gotten a pass for it? Typical liberal tact. Up is down, left is right just as wrong is.

March 13, 2012 at 3:04 p.m.

FPSE, the only example you've produced of a name caller would be Bill Maher who has already said that Rush shouldn't have apologized.

That's not hypocrisy. He's wrong, but not a hypocrite.

Maybe it's got more to do with, if the shoe fits wear it! If you don't like the liberal media, last time I checked, I had a remote for my TV, maybe you should get one so you can watch Faux News. That way you can rest easy in your ignorance, knowing there's someone out there as delusional as you. Boy George wrecked this country, and anyone who says different is a liar or a fool. Has Obama been perfect, no not in anyway, could he have done a better job, absolutely. Is there anyone who could undo the harm Boy George and LYING Dick did in their years in office in 4 years, the answer is not just no, it's hell no. I shudder to think what the situation would be if McCain/Palin had of one the election.

tutu, I guess you don't want to address the disaster Boy George, and Lying Dick left the country in. You idiot, you can fool all the people most of the time, I mean some of the most, oh well you know what I mean, just another historical quote from Boy George. I miss the good old days when Halliburton was running our military, not to mention the almost 1 trillion dollars missing in Iraq.

Bulbs -- This from Wikipedia destroys your pithy, totally incorrect, disparaging, spin-full remark re: the limerick and its origins.

Quote

Older versions of this rhyme had the word [n-word] (instead of tiger) and are less popular now because of the waning public acceptability of the word, including:

Eeny, meena, mina, mo,
Catch a [n-word] by the toe,
If he hollers let him go,
Eena, meena, mina, mo.[2]

This version was similar to that reported as the most common version among American schoolchildren in 1888.[8] It was used in the chorus of Bert Fitzgibbon's 1906 song "Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Mo":

Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Mo,
Catch a [n-word] by his toe,
If he won't work then let him go;
Skidum, skidee, skidoo.
But when you get money, your little bride
Will surely find out where you hide,
So there's the door and when I count four,
Then out goes you.[9]

[Phrases in bold and in brackets are mine.]

Unquote
This entry points out the racist implications of Clay's racially-offensive "cartoon":

"A jocular use of a form of the rhyme by a Southwest Airlines flight attendant, encouraging passengers to sit down so the plane could take off, led to a 2003 lawsuit charging the airline with intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligent infliction of emotional distress. Two versions of the rhyme were attested in court; both "Eeny meeny miny mo, Please sit down it's time to go" and "Pick a seat, it's time to go". The passengers in question were African American and stated that they were humiliated. A jury returned a verdict in favor of Southwest and the plaintiffs' appeal denied." [Emphasis mine] The finding is irrelevent to the emotional distress given...the victims were still "distressed" over the remark.

Get real. Ron Paul isn't even in the race any longer. He's nothing but a distraction and a drag on the nomination process at this point. Gingrich, at the very least, has won two contests and may, and I do mean may, win a third. He's toast after Alabama and Mississippi

You may be right but until they drop out the media should provide equal air time and access to the public. The exposure may hasten their drop out if they catch Santorum's foot in mouth disease. If they, Gingrich and Paul, stay in they may be able to have a little influence on the republican platform.

Ron Paul will probably be in it to the end and is still getting important endorsements. The MSM is under stating his delegate count.

Make up your mind whether you want to disparage our soldiers or protect them. Pretty disgusting that you would trash a member of Seal Team 6, the heroes that finally finished off the piece of crap that killed our countrymen, just to take a shot at the man who was ultimately responsible for the outcome of that dangerous mission. I was thrilled at the news that night. You must have been disappointed. You absolutely exude selfishness... and yes, I know you don't care... you are proud of your fecklessness. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite so disingenuous posted here. "Our soldiers," you said. You suck at an Olympic level.

March 13, 2012 at 7:55 p.m.

tq: Gee, you came up with a list of names, but some of them said things about Democrats, others you haven't established as saying anything about Rush Limbaugh's conduct...so what are we supposed to say? That other people say crass things?

If you have to be told that, should we also tell you that the sky is blue, what goes up must come down, or that the end is nigh?

Would you like a list of people who said New Orleans got what was coming to it? Or the same about Japan? Name-calling about Hillary you've already found, and surely Rush isn't off your mind yet already. Do you want to know what he's said about other women too?

The list goes on. But you've not found any hypocrites. Can you produce one of those?

Besides yourself, that is.

rolando: Now you've said before that Wikipedia isn't a reliable source, but you're citing it now? Oh my. Did you change your mind?

Oh wait, you're only citing PART of the page.

Why didn't you quote the ORIGINS section? Probably because it doesn't contain any support for your position.

Nobody's claiming there isn't a racist version. Except you. Because anybody who uses it must be racist.

Of course, you don't believe that. You're just saying it so you can make somebody else look bad instead of actually dealing with the problem.

And the strange thing is, you're probably one of the people who is most likely to claim offense at any suggestion of concern about racism. But when you do it, even when it's transparently disingenuous, well, that's different.

I guess you being such a terrible liar is a good thing, except you probably believe somebody somewhere is fooled.

If that lawsuit had turned out differently, you'd probably still be screaming about it. So don't pretend to us you have an actual concern. It's only continuing to destroy your credit.

Really, that must be your plan. You are committed to making Republicans look bad by being such a terrible advocate.

That's the only logical explanation.

Who trained you? Was it the Communists? The Socialists? The Chinese? Space Aliens?

Or are you actually going to claim you think you're doing the right thing?

March 13, 2012 at 8:12 p.m.

No, I can actually type several sentences without having to strain the limits of my cognitive capacity.

Maybe you shouldn't turn on Bill O'Reilly when you could be watching NCIS.

"tu_quoque said... "for the third time"

Man is that revealing on many levels. If you know what I mean?"

Yes, I watched "Game Change" three times because even now I still have a very hard time believing just how close this country came to electing someone who was so ill-equipped and ignorant of facts a fifth grade student learns in an elementary Civics class. The idea this utterly dumb, ignorant woman is still considered as a possible candidate for anything is simply amazing. Yet if she were the Republican Nominee in the Fall it's a given she would win the states of Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Arkansas, and Kentucky. More than anything else that fact illustrates why these states rank so low when it comes to education.

I always cringed everytime the cameras were focused on W because you never knew when he would make up a word or say something that would leaving you saying "huh?" But compared to Palin, he's a genius. I had truly hoped she would get into the race this year and maybe there's still time if they have a brokered convention. The Repub circus is boring now. All the clowns have performed and their acts are not worthy of more than a yawn at best. With Palin in the race, at the very least it will provide more humor.

Yesterday, she issued a challenge to debate Barack Obama so maybe she's decided to throw her hat in the ring. She barely made it through the debate with Joe Biden in '08. I have my bowl of popcorn ready just in case it happens though. LOL
