Sequatchie County senior Alyssa Lawson chooses Truett-McConnell

Sequatchie County senior Alyssa Lawson recently signed to continue her basketball career at Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland, Ga.

Lawson, a 6-foot-1 senior, averaged six points and six rebounds for the Lady Indians, who advanced to the Region 4-AA quarterfinals.

"I'm definitely excited about the opportunity. It's a blessing from God," Lawson said. "I've played basketball for so long, and my family has always been there to support me."

She feels the defensive side of the ball is her best strength.

"It's definitely the best part of my game," she said. "I'm a good rebounder, but I think I can play well with my back to the basket, too.

"I think playing here at Sequatchie prepared me for the next level. Coach [Anita] Barker stresses excellence."

For Truett-McConnell coach Matt Sanders, Lawson is "another solid piece to the puzzle.

"I think her best basketball is in front of her," he said. "She'll help us by giving us some extra size in the post. I think she's a perfect fit for this school; she fits the mission here at the school with her personality and her faith, so we're excited to have her come on for sure.

"I think we're taking a good player from a good program."
