Letters to the Editors: Morris loyalties are off base

Morris loyalties are off base

The commentary by Dick Morris (March 12) should be an eye opener for every patriotic American.

His treasonous calculations about how Israel could remove the current president by attacking Iran, and bring about an oil shock recession, show where his first loyalty lies.

Our media and political class have many similar people who put the interest of Israel above the welfare of the United States. This is the same Neoconservative crowd that conned and deceived this country into invading Iraq.

The United States desperately needs leaders with an undivided loyalty to the United States and its citizens.

Christ said no one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will hold to one and despise the other. His emphasis was spiritual but the concept is relevant nationally. Undivided loyalty is getting harder to find these days, both nationally and spiritually.

Good drivers welcome here

If you can negotiate a left-hand curve without encroaching on my lane and nearly running me off the road, welcome to our town, and I hope you enjoy your visit.

If you can operate the turn signal lever in your car or truck and signaling me your intentions, welcome to our town, and I hope you enjoy your visit.

If you can drive on I-24 or I-75 or Highway 153 and stay within 10 mph of the posted speed limit, welcome to our town, and I pray you survive your visit.

Double standard very much in play

I've heard numerous demands that Rush Limbaugh be removed from the airwaves: most recently a letter (March 12). I don't listen to Mr. Limbaugh's program. I abhor what he said about Ms. Fluke. However, I didn't hear an outcry for Ed Schultz to be removed from the airwaves when he called Laura Ingraham the same name.

I didn't hear an outpouring of shock and demands that Bill Maher be removed from the airwaves when he called Sarah Palin a "dumb ----" or when he said she had been named a contributor to Fox News "which is actually very similar to her day job -- talking to a baby with Down syndrome."

How about when Deneen Borelli was called a "black, teabagging (N-word)"? Mr. Schultz apologized for what he said and his apology was accepted, but Limbaugh's is a "non-apology"? Is there a double standard going on?

Ms. Fluke is not "defending health care for all women." She's asking for free birth control. There's a big difference. This issue has nothing to do with women's health care -- it's about freedom of religion. No faith-based organization should be forced to provide insurance coverage for something that's against their basic belief. (Just so you know, I'm not a Republican and I'm not Catholic.)

Recruit writer to unite us

Five stars to Max Bahner (letter "Let's find a leader who can unite us," March 13). A brilliant man.

Unfortunately a leader to unite us does not exist. But if anyone could, it would be Max Bahner.

Ivy Academy great place to be

Ivy Academy is a breath of fresh air.

I can't express how much I love my son's and my new school, Ivy Academy.

My son does not fit in at a regular large high school setting and he never did. When choosing a school for him, I knew he needed a smaller school with more one-on-one time with teachers, and Ivy fit the bill.

My concerns disappeared after the Christmas holiday when my son couldn't wait to go back to school. It is a true blessing because he always hated school, and now he couldn't wait to go back!

He started caring about his work and his new friends. The teachers are amazing! The unique outdoor teaching, along with hiking every day, adds to its appeal. Not every child learns the same, and Ivy teaches our kids in a new style that works very well for my child.

If you have a child who doesn't fit in to traditional high school settings, then this school is for your student. Ivy Academy has brought peace of mind and happiness to myself and my child. Thanks Ivy!

Liberal women just need help

I think it is just wonderful that the poor, helpless liberal women have the president of the United States to stand up for them and chastise mean old men like Rush Limbaugh.

Unfortunate victims, they are constantly being told what to do by men, called names, and just don't have any way to stand up for themselves. Enter their hero and protector to rescue the little ladies.

Conservative women who get called vile names and have their children insulted and degraded don't seem to rate such paternalist feelings. Maybe the conservative women are made of sterner stuff.

Letter brings positive results

One year and a half ago, you published my letter concerning the Dollar General Stores' abandonment of its Westside customers. Your publication of that letter brought about the march of Westside residents and other concerned citizens from Renaissance Presbyterian Church past the empty store to Beuhler's food market to make the public aware of our plight.

And today, a new One Stop store is being constructed with the walls that once housed Dollar General. I don't know who the owner is, but through the windows one can see custom made display cases, counters and shelves, a sloped produce table. Also there is a rear wall of cold boxes, and this morning a man was installing a refrigeration unit for a freezer. Very soon we will have a neighborhood store again. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I am very grateful to God that Mr. Perrin Lance and Mr. Chris Brooks saw my letter, and together with other active people in the area created Chattanooga Organized for Action, whose members and friends marched with us and are helping us save our community.

Postal Service offers good deal

What does the U.S. Postal Service do?

They deliver correspondence to every house and business in the United States six days per week.

It delivers first-class (there is still plenty), cards and letters to loved ones here and abroad, business correspondence, packages, so-called junk (coupons, political mail, advertisements, etc.)

It supports 7,500,000 jobs in the U.S. and buy American-made products to the tune of billions of dollars per year. Much has been made of its going into the red that is partially due to the U.S. Treasury treating it as a cash cow ($5.6 billion) annually extracting from its money to pre-fund a retirement system that has been paid ahead for years and years.

Had it been free from government interference, it would be showing a profit now.

The Internet has hurt first class mailing. So has the recession and the high price of gas.

As of yet, it has spent no taxpayer money, but even if it uses taxpayers' money in the future, it will be the biggest bang for the bucks of any recipient except for the armed forces.

The Postal Service has spoiled us all. If you would like it to keep doing so, please write to your congressmen and senators and say so.

It's not just Dick Morris who is disloyal to America. Republican "leaders" have pledged to make a duly-elected US President "fail." Many spew a constant steam of vicious attacks that have no basis in fact. Those who pander to the ignorant and parrot ugly epithets and stereotypes are disloyal to America.

There are many issues about which we citizens need to have serious and thoughtful discussions. Calling names and distorting the truth are a disservice to this Democratic Republic.

moonk...I get what you say right up until you imply that Democrats/self-proclaimed Liberals DO NOT SPEW CONSTANT STEAM OF VICIOUS ATTACKS THAT HAVE NO BASIS IN FACT. Also to infer only Republicans pander to the ignorant(which libs assume all not like them are)and parrot ugly epithets and stereotypes...."is beyond ridiculous. All this and more comes from the Left continually and often without being challenged. And you have the gall to infer that disloyalty to America resides only on the Right and with Republicans? I wish I could laugh that off but it is sadly sickening. Distorting the truth, name-calling, these have become the calling cards of political campaigns in this nation. Personally, we all need to be embarrassed by it. One final note, the potential "failing" of this President will in no way be because of Republican "leaders'" pledge. It will be due to continual pursuit of failed policies.

Mr. Jones, BO is an anti-American and does not repect the Constitution. SO, I don't consider him my president. Dick Morris is right on. I hope Israel turns Iran into an ashtray. Liberals are always on the wrong side of everything.
