Mindless violence strikes 13-year-old Chattanooga girl

Unjustified violence of any type is appalling, but it is especially tragic to note the shooting of a 13-year-old girl near Bennett Avenue in Chattanooga on Saturday night. The circumstances are unclear, but a witness indicated that Keoshia Ford had said she was being chased. Moments later, she was shot in the head and chest.

At this writing, she was in critical condition, and no arrests had been made.

Was she caught in some kind of crossfire? Was gang violence to blame? We don't know yet.

"All I know is that my baby's fighting for her life," said Keoshia's father, Michael Ford.

Meanwhile, a man died in a separate shooting Saturday on Fagan Street.

We offer prayers for Keoshia and for the families affected by such violence, and we hope justice will be done in each case.

this is the kind of violence that can't be tolerated in Tn. or anywhere else for all that matters,,,this was an innocent girl with her friends or playing, her and her parents shouldn't have to worry about her getting shot.we can't have 17 year olds running around the streets trying to show a manhood that is irresponsible to the general public. it's a shame to see 2 wars going on overseas trying to keep the public safe and out of harms way and then you have idiots running around the streets of America where you can have anything you want when you apply yourself in a positive manner,,,,send these people to the war zones if they want to kill,,they can be useful for something if they don't to take part of a free enterprise like the United States. Freedom in America and they throw it away,,people around the world wish they had it..just doesn't make sense..
