More than 500 walkers are expected at Renaissance Park on Sunday afternoon to participate in the 17th annual Strides of March.

The 3.1-mile walk/run is a fundraiser for Chattanooga CARES, the Tennessee Valley's HIV/AIDS resource agency.

"The money goes to client assistance," said David Martinez, CARES' community relations manager. "CARES is helping 600 clients right now."

Registration for the walk starts at noon. The walk will step off at 2 p.m., rain or shine, said Martinez. Participants waiting for the event to begin will be entertained by local band Priscilla and Little Ric-Kee, said Martinez.

It's not too late to participate.

Martinez said walkers may register online at chattanoogacares.org or at the event on Sunday. Participants may either make a flat donation to CARES or take pledges per mile walked. Martinez said people who want to support the work of CARES, but can't participate in the walk on Sunday, also may make donations through the website.
