BOONE, N.C. -- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior Michelle Fuzzard made her record-setting performance official on Sunday as the Lady Mocs (18-11, 4-0 SoCon) completed a 16-4 win in five innings over Appalachian State in Southern Conference play. The game had started Saturday but was halted in the fourth inning by severe weather.

Fuzzard went 3-for-3 in the game with two home runs and finished with a UTC single-game record nine RBIs in the win, and broke the Southern Conference career RBI record in the process. Fuzzard now has 191 career RBIs, passing College of Charleston's Amanda Cone who had 184 RBIs fron 2001 to 2004.

"We have had some great players that have set those records," Fuzzard said in a school release following the game. "To be passing those great players is an honor. I guess the record is fitting because I already have the SoCon and school record in RBI, so also having the single-game one feels pretty good."

Fuzzard wasn't the only UTC player to have a good offense performance, as the Lady Mocs had 16 hits and tied a school record with six home runs. In addition to Fuzzard's big day at the plate, freshman Nicole Osterman hit two homers along with home runs by senior Jessica Traxler and freshman Sarah Beth Roberts.

"We are very strong one though nine," UTC coach Frank Reed said. "We see that power in practice and it is great to see it carry over into a game. I can't say enough about the way they played and put runs on the board."

Right fielder Stephanie Rieck went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Osterman, Roberts and junior second baseman Sara Poteat each had two hits for UTC. Poteat also had a stolen base, and she leads the Lady Mocs with 15 stolen bases on the season.

Freshman Taylor Deason gave up three earned runs on six hits and a walk while striking out two Appalachian State batters to improve her record to 12-4.

The final two games of the scheduled three-game series at Appalachian State were canceled because of weather. UTC will be back on the road this weekend with a three-game series at Georgia Southern.

Lady Vols sweep

The 12th-ranked Tennessee softball team completed a three-game sweep of Mississippi State with an 8-0 win Sunday in Starkeville, Miss.

Shelby Burchell led the Lady Vols, going 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs in the win, and former GPS standout Tory Lewis walked a scored a run for UT.

UT pitcher Ivy Renfroe gave up five hits to pick up the shutout victory while striking out three.
