AT&T boosts local investment

AT&T increased its investment in Tennessee to $1.3 billion from 2009 through 2011, up from $1.2 billion from 2008 through 2010, the company said.

During 2011, AT&T says it upgraded 1,650 components in its wireless network, including about 35 new cell towers, laying fiber-optic cable at 900 sites, and adding wireless capacity to 475 locations. The company also upgraded 225 cell sites to support mobile Internet, it said.

Nationwide, AT&T says it completed 150,000 network enhancements in 2011, more than triple the prior year.

BBB purchases Baptist building

The Hamilton County Baptist Association sold its headquarters at 508 N. Market St. to the Better Business Bureau this week and relocated to the Baptist Children’s Home campus at 6625 Lee Highway.

“With the changes in demographics in the city, this location just works better for us,” said David Myers, the association’s director of missions. “The location is good.”

The Baptist association has been located in North Chattanooga for the past 37 years.
