A man who was fired as DeKalb County's jail administrator now has resigned as mayor of the Northeast Alabama town of Sylvania.

Mitchell Dendy declined comment on his resignation as mayor of the city of 1,400.

But the Times-Journal of Fort Payne reported that town officials found Dendy's letter of resignation at Sylvania City Hall on Tuesday.

Dendy's resignation comes after DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris fired him last week as chief administrator at the county jail. Harris said Dendy was dismissed over claims of sexual misconduct, improprieties and harassment. He said Dendy also was violating the county policy on sexual harassment.

Dendy hasn't commented on his firing, either.

The Sylvania City Council will appoint his successor as mayor.
