Chattanooga Music Club will highlight the talent of an established concert artist and the next generation of local musicians in a concert Monday night in Memorial Auditorium.
The 7 p.m. program will feature Dr. Robert Delcamp playing the auditorium's historic Austin pipe organ and the musicians of the CSO Youth Orchestras' Symphony Orchestra.
"An interesting tidbit," said Evelyn Gibbs, CMC organ restoration chairwoman, "is that although the 81-rank Austin organ has been featured on programs with various bands in recent years -- such as Jericho Brass, MidSouth Concert Band and the Ooltewah High School Band -- this will be the first time in 60 or more years that the organ has been heard in concert with an orchestra."
She said Delcamp will join the youth orchestra for "one of Andre Guilmant's most-beloved organ works," Symphony No. 1 for Organ and Orchestra, Op. 42.
Delcamp will be a featured soloist on works by Franz Schubert, G.F. Handel, Alfred Collins and Nigel Ogden.
The organist, who has toured extensively in the U.S., England and Germany as a concert artist, is professor of music and choirmaster at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. He is the organist of All Saints' Chapel on the university campus.
The youth orchestra, directed by Gary Wilkes, will play Morton Gould's "American Salute," Aaron Copland's "Variations on a Shaker Melody" and Modest Moussorgsky's "Night on Bald Mountain."
