The man who committed suicide Friday in the Hamilton County Jail had been locked up for violating probation on a stalking charge, authorities said Saturday.

Kenneth Wayne Darr, 51, pleaded guilty to aggravated stalking in March of 2011 and was sentenced to one year. On Tuesday he was arrested at his home for contempt of court, in violation of his probation. He was scheduled to appear before judge Rebecca Stern next Friday.

Hamilton County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Janice Atkinson said Darr was found dead in his cell around 9 p.m. Friday night.

The Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the death, according to a news release.
