GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball team opened the final weekend of the regular season with a 9-1 win Saturday afternoon against UNC Greensboro, but the second game of the scheduled Southern Conference doubleheader was postponed by rain.

UTC (35-14, 18-2) put the opener away in the sixth inning by scoring six runs on six hits, highlighted by two-run doubles by right fielder Stephanie Rieck and catcher Vivian Morimoto.

Freshman center fielder Cheyenne Willis led the Lady Mocs' attack, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored, as UTC outhit UNCG 13-3. Rieck, Morimoto and second baseman Sara Poteat each had two hits.

Pitcher Taylor Deason gave up one unearned run while striking out six in her complete-game victory. The freshman improved her record to 21-7 on the season and improved her ERA to 2.22.

Aisha Figueroa got all three hits for the Spartans (22-29, 10-11), who scored their run in the fifth when UTC made two of its three errors.

There was no score when game two was suspended in the third inning. It will resume today at 1 p.m., followed by the final game of the series.

Poteat made the Capital One Academic All-District 3 first team announced this past week by the College Sports Information Directors of America. She has a 3.34 grade point average to go with her SoCon-leading batting average.
