The aunt of a 27-year-old man charged with killing his father and older brother was arrested for lying to police about her nephew’s whereabouts.
Kathy Strickland has been charged with making false statements to law enforcement, hindering the apprehension of a criminal and obstruction, Dalton Police Department spokesman Bruce Frazier said in a news release.
Police believe that, after Emilio Canales shot his family at their home on Dude Street on April 29, he called his aunt, Strickland, and she picked him up at the local Walgreens pharmacy, Frazier said.
Strickland drove him to another house where he later was spotted by a Whitfield County sheriff’s deputy, Frazier said.
Police don’t believe Strickland was involved in the shootings, he said.
Canales’ father, Emilio Canales Sr., and his brother Francisco Canales died, but his mother Deborah is recovering from wounds to her back, according to police.
